Diversity is the cornerstone of Burling Builders, Inc. We are a Minority Owned General Contractor, certified through the Chicago Minority Supplier Development Council, and our workforce is equally diverse. Whether compliance goals are mandatory on a project or not, Burling Builders makes a practice of implementing a diverse workforce as well as inclusive opportunities for all subcontractors. Burling’s subcontractor database is made up of 50% minority/women owned firms per trade division. Not only does BBI reach out to MBE/WBE subcontractors directly, we also send all ITB’s to their council to ensure awareness of upcoming project opportunities. We routinely work with Black Contractors United, HACIA, Federation of Women Contractors and the Minority Business Development Agency.
Burling Builders, Inc is a proud participating sponsor of Construct, an 11-week program offering over 60 students the training, information and guidance needed to compete for entry-level construction related jobs. This program has successfully to increased the pool of qualified minority candidates for construction jobs in Illinois.
Burling Builders, Inc completed the ComEd Chicago Training Center, which obtained a M/WBE inclusion percentage that once seemed impossible. It was agreed upon from the start of the project, that the construction of the facility should reflect the community in which it was being built and the surrounding communities. The original project participation goal was 25%, but by the completion of the project it totaled in 90% total spend. Which was then broken down by spends (African American, Hispanic and Women).
