The Chicago Torture Justice Memorial is a new construction project featuring a landscaped public park and concrete memorial dedicated to honoring survivors of police torture. The project includes a memorial structure, excavated amphitheater, accessible pedestrian pathways, cantilevered seating areas, a gift shop and storage shipping container, new site utilities, and extensive landscape improvements. The approximately half-acre site will incorporate native plantings, gardens, trees, permeable paving, and community gathering spaces designed to support reflection, education, and remembrance. The memorial structure consists of a Type I reinforced concrete system with textured columns, a profiled concrete slab, concrete parapet walls, and integrated seating elements. Site work includes civil improvements, new water service, storm sewer connections, electrical service, site lighting, and monument illumination. The project will transform the existing site into a lasting public space focused on healing, community engagement, and honoring the experiences of survivors.
